People have been
living in
Michigan for
about 12,000
years. A couple of
American tribes who
lived here were Kickepoo,
Miami, and Ojibwe tribes.
France had possession of Michigan until the 1700s. England then beat France in the Indian-French war. Americans fought with France during the war. In 1805 Michigan became part of the U.S. More settlers came once Michigan became part of the U.S. The Erie Canal was built so it was much easier to get to Michigan. Michigan became a free state on January 26th, 1837. Michigan was the 26th state. Something cool about Michigan is, as you just read, it was the 26th state and became a state on the 26th of January. I think Michigan is a cool and beautiful state that you should definitely come and visit!
